Why pay a premium for a sporty brand if you're not getting a sporty model?

If you care about the "image, feel and look of a Porsche", why would you buy a Cayenne, any Cayenne, in the first place?

1st gen cayenne GTS - over 400hp from an NA V8, AWD, and a 6-speed manual in a 5000lb brick that flips off physics and eats unprepared pony cars for fun.

It's the cayenne I would own because it is rolling lunacy.

I meant no disrespect to the Cayenne and I'm sure it's a great vehicle, but when I read 'V8, AWD, 5000lbs' the word 'Porsche' isn't the first thing that comes to (my) mind. That was my only point. I'd guess you buy a Cayenne because it's a great vehicle in its own right, not because of the Porsche badge and heritage. But I might be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time.

I'm unabashedly a 911 fan forever and ever but I don't see the point in hating on the car if it works for the company that makes it. Otherwise, we'd spend all our time yelling at the 30,000 people who looked at the honda crosstour and went "Yes.....this is the BEST car I can buy for my needs and budget!". At least the cayenne is a runaway freight train of money so the 911 and cayman/boxster are better off because of it. ANd look at it this way - the panamera paid for the new le mans car. No, the 5000lb SUV isn't very "porsche" but a 24h of le mans prototype? THAT is Porsche. And if they have to upsell touaregs with fancier seats to do it, then by all means please do......although I am mad the second gen wasn't available with a V8 and manual combo. I know it wasn't a massive hit, but it was a subtle nudge to the enthusiasts like "yeah we sold out for an album....but we can still yell at the man from time to time"
